Prove employees clocked infrom the right job site.
Draw a boundary around every site your team works from — a storefront, a warehouse, a client address, a job site — and every clock-in is checked against it automatically. Punches inside the fence go through without interruption. Punches outside it are flagged for a manager to review, and the employee is still paid for the hours on the normal schedule.
How geofenced clock-in works
Four steps, all automatic — nothing extra for the employee to do at punch time.
Out-of-fence punches get flagged, not blocked
Geofencing in SmartClock Systems is a visibility tool, not a gate. When a clock-in lands outside the boundary you've set — a technician who punches in from the parking lot instead of inside the fence line, a caregiver whose phone GPS drifts a couple hundred feet, a driver who starts a shift from the yard instead of the dock — that punch is never rejected or held back. It's flagged for review and the hours are paid on the normal schedule. A manager sees exactly which punches were outside the fence, how far outside, and at what time, then decides whether to approve it, request a correction, or follow up directly with the employee.
This matters because GPS on a phone is never perfect — buildings, weather, and device quality all shift accuracy by dozens or even hundreds of feet. A system that hard-blocks clock-ins on imperfect signal punishes honest employees and slows payroll down for everyone. Flag-and-review keeps clock-in simple for the person punching in, while still giving you a complete, tamper-evident record of where every hour was actually worked.
What geofencing includes
Six capabilities that ship in the live product today — not a roadmap item.
Custom job-site boundaries
Set a radius or draw a custom shape around any address — a single storefront, a sprawling warehouse, or an entire client campus. Assign different sites to different employees, crews, or shifts.
Flagged-punch review queue
Out-of-fence clock-ins land in a dedicated review queue with the punch location, distance from the boundary, and timestamp attached, so managers can resolve exceptions without digging through raw GPS logs.
Tamper-evident audit trail
Every punch — inside or outside the fence — is written to a record that captures the raw coordinates, device, and timestamp, so location history can't be quietly altered after the fact.
Multi-site and multi-crew management
Manage boundaries for as many locations as your business runs — job sites, retail stores, client offices, distribution hubs — all from one dashboard, with per-site assignment by employee or team.
Mobile and kiosk clock-in
Employees clock in from their own phone or a shared tablet kiosk at a site entrance. Geofencing works the same way across both, so field crews and fixed-location staff are covered by one system.
Built into scheduling and payroll
Geofence status flows straight into the timecard a manager approves and the payroll run that follows it — no separate export or reconciliation step between where someone worked and what they were paid.
Built for teams working across more than one location
Any business where "were you actually there?" is a real question — multi-site, multi-crew, or multi-client operations where a single shared office doesn't apply.
One platform from clock-in to paycheck
Geofencing isn't a bolt-on widget — it's the location layer underneath the same scheduling, payroll, PTO, and compliance tools your team already uses.
Scheduling
Build shift schedules with drag-and-drop tools, assign employees to the sites their geofence covers, and fill open shifts from the same dashboard used for time tracking. See scheduling features.
Payroll
Approved timecards — geofence status and all — flow directly into gross-to-net payroll: taxes, deductions, and pay stubs calculated from the same hours a manager already reviewed. Prefer your current provider? Export approved hours as a CSV or sync them to Gusto instead. See payroll features.
PTO and time off
Paid time off runs on the same record: employees request it, managers approve it, and approved PTO hours land on the timecard alongside worked hours — no separate spreadsheet to reconcile. See PTO features.
Compliance and documents
Geofenced punches feed the same tamper-evident audit log used for HR document tracking, onboarding paperwork, and licence and credential records — so a location question and a compliance review pull from one consistent history instead of two. See compliance features.
